Allergy treatment available online today

Allergies are an immune system response to a substance that the body mistakenly identifies as harmful. These substances, known as allergens, can be harmless to most people but trigger an exaggerated immune reaction in individuals with allergies. Common allergens include pollen, dust mites, pet dander, certain foods (such as nuts, shellfish, eggs, and dairy), insect stings, and certain medications.

Allergies Causes

Allergies are caused by an overreaction of the immune system to substances that are normally harmless to most people. These substances, called allergens, can vary widely. When a person with allergies is exposed to an allergen, their immune system mistakenly identifies the substance as harmful and mounts an immune response, leading to the release of inflammatory chemicals like histamine. These chemicals cause the symptoms associated with allergic reactions, such as sneezing, runny nose, itching, swelling, and difficulty breathing.

Allergies Symptoms

When a person with allergies comes into contact with an allergen, their immune system produces antibodies called immunoglobulin E (IgE), which trigger the release of chemicals such as histamine. Histamine and other chemicals cause allergic symptoms, which can range from mild to severe and may include:

  • Sneezing
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Itchy, watery eyes
  • Skin rash or hives
  • Swelling (angioedema)
  • Difficulty breathing or wheezing
  • Digestive issues like nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

Allergic reactions can vary in intensity, with mild symptoms being easily managed and severe reactions, such as anaphylaxis, being life-threatening and requiring immediate medical attention. Treatment for allergies often involves avoiding triggers when possible and using medications such as antihistamines, decongestants, nasal corticosteroids, and epinephrine auto-injectors for severe reactions. Allergy testing may also be conducted to identify specific allergens and develop a personalized treatment plan.
